You may have seen the trailer or at least the listing for this new film from the Cohen Brothers on Netflix. Having just watched it last night I can say that this film feels right at home in the Cohen Brothers catalog. The film presents itself as a book, six short stories to be exact. The stories are broken up by the turning of pages by an unknown narrator giving the whole movie an even more distinct feeling. It is as though the stories are being told by a great aunt or grandfather while the fire crackles and your mind fixates on the imagined. The film holds an R rating for some more graphic images of the violence that came along with westward expansion, but if you can get past that you will find a fun, emotional, deep and honest story about the human experience and how it persevered through to the untamed west! Oh, and I could absolutely watch Tom Waits pan for gold as a feature length film.
