The United States won six more medals at the London Olympics on Monday.  We grabbed two gold and two silver in swimming, and one bronze in judo and synchronized diving.  Here's a summary of our new medals:

#1.)  17-year-old Missy Franklin won gold in the Women's 100-meter Backstroke.

#2 and #3.)  We won the gold AND silver medals in the Men's 100-meter Backstroke:  Matt Grevers won gold and Nick Thoman took silver.

#4.)  Rebecca Soni won silver in the Women's 100-meter Breaststroke.

#5.)  Marti Malloy won a bronze in Women's Judo, 125-pound weight class.

#6.)  David Boudia and Nick McCrory won the bronze in Men's Synchronized Diving, 10-meter platform.  (--That's more than 30 feet high.)

That pulls us into a tie with CHINA in the overall medal count . . . but the Chinese still have the edge with nine gold medals to our five.  Here are the medal standings:

 #1.)  China with 17 medals . . . 9 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze.

 #2.)  The United States with 17 medals . . . 5 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze.

 #3.)  Japan with 11 medals . . . 1 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze.

 #4.)  Italy with 8 medals . . . 2 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze.

 #5.)  France with 7 medals . . . 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze.

The Internet has spoken . . . and it's declared that the most attractive women at the Olympics are the members of the Netherlands' field hockey team.

The Dutch field hockey women actually have a reputation for being exceptionally attractive . . . apparently some people were saying that as far back as the 2004 Olympics in Athens . . . but now they're getting even more attention.

A custody battle is brewing between KRISTEN STEWART and ROBERT PATTINSON  over the dog. Early in 2011, they adopted a mutt named Bear from a high-kill shelter in New Orleans and neither of them wants to give him up. A source says, "Rob told Kristen he wanted Bear.  She was heartbroken , they adopted Bear together and she always felt that he was their little baby. But Rob was so hurt by Kristen's actions he decided that he wants the dog to help him get over what happened. However, Kristen won't give up Bear in a hurry. She wants joint custody . . . and it could get a little messy."

Paris Hilton helped save someone? A young man named Mike Oliveri who suffers from muscular dystrophy happened to meet Paris about two weeks ago.  She hung out with him and was really kind to him, but that's not where this story ends. Soon after that, Paris hit up his website,  MikeyWheels.com , and started chatting with him.  During that chat she gave him $5,000 and the money was seriously needed, because Mikey's care costs thousands of dollars a month. Mike made a YouTube video explaining just how much Paris has done for him and he even claims her unsolicited donation saved his life.

The average person really doesn't understand how much good celebrities do, because it's often not reported.  That's why you can really put your foot in your mouth criticizing them for not doing more. That's exactly what happened to one of OPRAH WINFREY'S Twitter followers who Tweeted, quote, "When are u going 2 give back 2 the ghettos in america?" Here was Oprah's BRUTAL YET BRILLIANT response , "When are u? I've put 500 African American men thru college.  And u sir?" What this FOOL didn't realize is that Oprah is the largest individual donor to Morehouse College, a historically black, all-male university.  She's given them more than $12 million since 1989.

There's been some talk that "The Hobbit" will be a TRILOGY just like "The Lord of the Rings".  Yesterday, director PETER JACKSON CONFIRMED it. In a Facebook post, he said,  "We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life. All of which gave rise to a simple question:  Do we take this chance to tell more of the tale?  And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved 'yes.'" He added that a third movie, with some additional filming next year,  was needed to fulfill his vision for "The Hobbit" and the history of Middle Earth. Peter said he's bringing in some stuff "from the related material in the appendices of 'The Lord of the Rings'  to tell the full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins." There's no title or release date for the third movie yet, although there's speculation that it could come out two years from now, in the summer of 2014. The first movie "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" hits theaters on December 14th.  The second one "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" comes out a year later, on December 13th, 2013.

"Us" magazine claims NICK JONAS and PHARRELL WILLIAMS are the "frontrunners" to take over the two empty judges' seats on "American Idol". Sources tell them that Nick and Pharrell would sit next to MARIAH CAREY , the only confirmed judge, while RANDY JACKSON would move into a "mentoring role."

-----

ABC has decided to pull the two remaining episodes of FRED WILLARD'S improv comedy show, "Trust Us with Your Life".  It's a response to Fred's arrest earlier this month, after he was caught pleasuring himself in a porno theater. Reruns of "Wipeout" will air in place of "Trust Us with Your Life". Fred previously lost his gig as the narrator of the PBS show "Market Warriors" even though he has insisted that he didn't do anything wrong, and that his side of the story is "much more PG" than what we've heard.

Part of the Olympics opening ceremony in London on Friday night was a tribute to victims of the terror attack of July 7th, 2005 that killed 52 people but if you were watching the show here in the U.S., you didn't see it because NBC cut away to an interview between RYAN SEACREST and MICHAEL PHELPS. In response to the backlash they got, an NBC spokesman said, quote, "Our programming is tailored for the U.S. audience.  It's a tribute to [producer] Danny Boyle that it required so little editing."

-----

NBC is taking some heat for tape-delaying MICHAEL PHELPS' first event so they could show it during primetime, instead of airing it live. By the time it aired Saturday night, people already knew Phelps had come in FOURTH in the men's 400-meter individual medley.

A U-Haul was spotted the other day outside the house in L.A. that ROBERT PATTINSON and KRISTEN STEWART were sharing. Last week we heard that Rob had moved out, even though the house is technically his.  Now there are reports that they've BOTH moved out, and they're still not speaking. Rob and Kristen are supposed to be co-presenters at the "MTV Video Music Awards" in September.  Meanwhile a source says Rob wants to,, "have a man to man chat" with "Snow White and the Huntsman" director RUPERT SANDERS, to find out exactly what happened between him and Kristen.

PARIS HILTON reportedly wants to sink her claws into CHRIS BROWN.  They partied together in France last week, and now Paris has her sights set on him. Of course, Chris does have a girlfriend but Paris has figured out how to get around all that. A source says, "Paris thinks Chris Brown is hot and really wants to hook up with him.  She likes bad boys, and he is bad to the bone.”

"Octomom" NADYA SULEMAN has tried everything to raise money.  Now it's come to this:  STRAIGHT-UP BEGGING. Nadya has set up an account on GoFundMe.com, which is one of those sites where people look for donations for various projects or needs and Nadya needs a new house.  The one she's been living in was FINALLY foreclosed on last month, and she needs to be out in two weeks.  She's seeking $150,000 to get into a new place. When we checked last night, she was up to 80 BUCKS in donations. Go HERE

Katy Perry and Lindsay Lohan a bit caty? The "National Enquirer" says that Katy threw a roller-skating party for a friend earlier this month, and Lindsay showed up and tried to get close to Katy.  Katy wasn't having it. A source says, "She started acting really weird.  She refused to talk to anyone and she kept following Katy around, trying to take a photo with her.  Katy told friends, 'I think she may be drunk, so PLEASE keep her away from me!'"

A prequel is in the works to the 1980 horror classic "The Shining".  It'll tell the story of what happened at the Overlook Hotel before JACK NICHOLSON'S character and his family got there. As far as we know, STEPHEN KING will NOT be involved.  King wrote the book, but he wasn't a fan of the movie.  He eventually tried to "correct" what he thought was wrong with it by writing his own adaptation, which was turned into an ABC miniseries in 1997. King is actually working on a novel that's a SEQUEL to "The Shining".  It'll be about a grown-up Danny Torrance.  He's the kid from the original novel who had a psychic gift a.k.a. The Shining.

Did you have any mishaps at your wedding?

A company called Kaleidoscope came up with the 10 most embarrassing things that can happen on your wedding day.  But Kaleidoscope makes dresses for the mother-of-the-bride, so their results may be a little skewed.  Here's their list:

#1.)  Bad outfits:  The example they gave was a bride's mother who wore an inappropriately sexy dress.

#2.)  Tension between the mothers:  Nasty comments, one-upmanship, and full-blown arguments between the bride and groom's mothers.

#3.)  The groom showing up at the altar drunk.

#4.)  Wardrobe malfunctions, like the groom's pants falling down.  (--Their example, not ours.)

#5.)  Crying babies.

#6.)  Someone speaking up:  You know when the minister asks, "Speak now or forever hold your peace" . . . apparently people outside of TV shows sometimes do.

#7.)  The groom picks the venue.  Although it's hard to imagine that happens very often.

#8.)  Seating chart politics:  It can be tough to keep all the family members who hate each other separated at the reception.

#9.)  Unwanted guests:  Not uninvited guests . . . but when you invite someone just to be polite, and they show up and make a scene.

#10.)  One of the dads dancing at the reception.

"People" magazine says ROBERT PATTINSON has moved out of the house he shared with KRISTEN STEWART, and they're currently not in contact with each other. A source says, quote, "I'm not sure they'll be able to recover from this.  He is heartbroken and angry." It should be noted, however, that the house actually belongs to Rob.  So his departure will probably only be temporary.

As expected, RUSSELL BRAND will not spend any time behind bars for chucking that photographer's iPhone in New Orleans earlier this year.  His attorney cut a deal yesterday that resulted in 20 hours of community service and $500 in court fees.  The case will be dismissed if he finishes his community service by August 31st.

ERIC DANE will NOT return to "Grey's Anatomy" this season.  He has played Dr. Mark Sloan . . . a.k.a. McSteamy . . . since Season Two in 2005. The show's creator Shonda Rhimes says, quote, "After much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end." According to TVLine.com, McSteamy won't be completely gone when Season Nine premieres in September.  He's expected to appear in a limited role for several episodes so the show can give him "a proper farewell."

File this under WTF!?!?!? GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS created an awkward moment on "Good Morning America" yesterday when he abruptly asked DYLAN MCDERMOTT about his mother's murder during a light-hearted interview. They were bantering about Dylan's new comedy "The Candidate" in front of some smiling fans outside in Times Square when George decided to ask a HARD-HITTING question. He said, quote, "You know there's something that's been in the news lately . . . I know you can't say much about it, but your mom was murdered 45 years ago . . . you were just five-years-old and just recently, with your help the case was finally solved and reached a conclusion.  Is there anything at all you can say about it?  I'd imagine that it's at least brought you some peace." Dylan responded, quote, "Well George, you know I want to keep my personal life personal you know, and I'm here to talk about 'The Campaign' you know.  That happened a long time ago and I'd rather just keep it for myself." George said he respected that, and moved on.

Sometimes the tabloids get it right.  KRISTEN STEWART apologized yesterday for cheating on ROBERT PATTINSON with her "Snow White" director RUPERT SANDERS. She said, quote, "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected." A source says Kristen definitely wants to stay with Rob and make things right with him. Kristen did NOT apologize to Rupert's wife Liberty Ross, or their two children but Rupert issued his own apology, saying, quote, "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family."

CHRISTIAN BALE went to a hospital in Aurora, Colorado to visit victims of the deadly shooting spree at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" last week.vWarner Brothers didn't put him up to it, either.  They issued a statement saying, quote, "Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing us." Bale and his wife also visited a memorial for the victims and joined a prayer circle.  They didn't announce or call attention to themselves, and Bale refused to give an interview to a TV news crew that happened to be there.

Pretty much every celebrity website in existence is reporting that KRISTEN STEWART cheated on ROBERT PATTINSON with RUPERT SANDERS . . . the guy who directed her in "Snow White and the Huntsman". A source says, quote, "Kristen is absolutely devastated.  It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment. "She wasn't having an affair with Rupert.  It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened.  She never meant to hurt anyone.  She's a good person who just made a bad choice." "Us Weekly" broke the story, and promises all the details in this week's issue.  Apparently, it happened last week.

Weekend developments in the Colorado shooting

Our partners at Wisebrother Media released these details earlier this morning, it's a summary of the weekend developments in the Colorado shooting. I refuse to use his name but here's the latest.

Weekend Developments in the "Dark Knight Rises" Shooting

#1.) It took officials two days to remove all the booby traps the shooter left in his apartment.  That included liquids, explosives, and chemicals that would've killed anyone who entered . . . if the shooter hadn't TOLD THEM about the traps.

#2.)  His semi-automatic rifle jammed during the shooting, because of a problem with the 100-shot magazine.  And the FBI believes it saved several lives.  He had to switch to a handgun, which couldn't fire as many rounds as quickly.

#3.)  It's clear the attack was being planned, quote, "with calculation and deliberation" for MONTHS.  The shooter purchased the guns legally from local gun shops starting back in May, and bought ammo and Kevlar online a few weeks ago.

#4.)  This is the worst shooting in the U.S. since the attack at Fort Hood in Texas in 2009, when an Army psychiatrist with Islamic fundamentalist sympathies killed 13 soldiers and civilians and wounded dozens more.

#5.)  The shooter is being held in solitary confinement on suspicion of 12 counts of first-degree murder.  He's in solitary because inmates at the Arapahoe Detention Center in Colorado apparently can't stop talking about KILLING HIM.

Remember, one of his victims was a six-year-old girl.  And child-killers do NOT do well in prison.

A jail employee says he hasn't shown any remorse, and was spitting at the door and the guards.  His initial hearing is today, and he's been assigned a public defender.  Colorado DOES have the death penalty.

#6.)  Regal Cinemas and AMC both instituted bans on wearing costumes to movies in the wake of the shooting.  AMC banned all masks and fake weapons . . . Regal just announced, quote, "stricter controls over character attire."

In this case, the shooter bought a ticket and sat in the front of the theater WITHOUT a costume.  After the movie started, he snuck out through an emergency exit, went to his car, and put on body armor and a gas mask before re-entering the theater.

Still, when he re-appeared with the gear and the weapons, and threw a canister of gas, the first people who saw him thought it was part of the midnight showing.

Stupid People Doing Stupid Things

Stupid People doing stupid things - not the 17 year old - whoever made the plea deal is the stupid one (-Josh)

UPDATE:
On Monday, attorneys for the boys dropped their motion to charge her with contempt.

Last August, 17-year-old Savannah Dietrich of Louisville, Kentucky was at a party.  She passed out from drinking, and two teenage boys sexually assaulted her.  Based on reports, they undressed and fondled her, but didn't have sex with her and they took photos, which they showed to several other people.

On June 26th, they took a deal, and pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault and misdemeanor voyeurism.  And as part of the plea, there was a gag order on the case to keep their names private.

But Savannah didn't find out about that plea deal until it was announced in court, and she couldn't believe it.  So . . . she decided to post their names on Twitter, even though she knew it could get her locked up for contempt.

After she posted their names, she wrote, quote, "There you go, lock me up.  I'm not protecting anyone that made my life a living hell."  She could get up to six months in jail and a $500 fine if she's convicted of contempt. The two boys who assaulted her haven't been sentenced yet.

Savannah says she knew she was violating the court order with her tweet, but, quote, "[Protecting rapists] is more important than getting justice for the victim in Louisville.

"I'm at the point that if I have to go to jail for my rights, I will do it.  If they really feel it's necessary to throw me in jail for talking about what happened to me as opposed to throwing these boys in jail for what they did to me, I don't understand justice."

Her contempt hearing is next Monday.  Her attorneys have argued that the First Amendment protects her right to speak about what happened to her.

The Dark Knight Rises no doubt ruled the weekend box office, but by how much? Major studios are keeping official estimates under wraps after the Dark Knight massacre, but Hollywood sources estimate a $160 million debut (audience surveys had indicated up to $200 million).  How badly the tragedy affected ticket sales is unclear but Warner Bros. did cancel red carpet premieres in Paris, Mexico City, and Tokyo, but few theater chains canceled Dark Knight screenings this weekend.

Fred Willard will probably avoid jail time for allegedly making love to himself in a XXX Theater. He's accused of lewd conduct, but he won't be officially charged if he enters a diversion program on sex crimes and decision making.  It'll cost him 380 bucks. There's no word if he'll take the deal.
