CAMP DAGGETT OFFERS WINTER ACTIVITIES


Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers or big brothers are invited to bring their sons (ages 8-16) for a fun filled Father/Son weekend, March 8-10, at Camp Daggett. Cost is $150 for father/son, plus $50 for each additional son.  Space is limited and registration is on a first come first served basis. Participants can expect a weekend of fun and adventure as they try their hands at various outdoor activities and enjoy wild game lunches and dinners in front of the lodge fireplace.  For additional information or to register, please contact Ed Leverenz at Camp Daggett, 231-347-9742 ext 112

If you’re looking for a way to beat the winter blues, or want to schedule a birthday party or family retreat at the Camp Daggett Adventure Center, the cost is $20 per person, which includes initiatives and high climbing walls, plus a room to do cake and ice cream.  Minimum for this three-hour event is 15 people for a total of $300.  It’s a great way to spend the day, play and learn together.

Registration is now open for Camp Daggett summer camp. Applications are available online or at area schools and local chambers of commerce. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrants for the first week of camp, June 16-22, get $50 off the registration fee.

Forest Area Federal Credit Union spent the month of November raising money for the local food pantries in the communities that their branches serve. These communities include:  Kalkaska, Fife Lake, Manton and Kingsley.  The Board of Directors of Forest Area Federal Credit Union authorized a Forest Area FCU matching donation of the first $1000 raised for an additional $250 per community in support of the efforts of their staff to make a difference in their communities giving a grand total raised this year of $4317.68.
 
“The generosity of our Members never ceases to amaze me!  Truly our communities live and breathe the Credit Union Philosophy of People Helping People! What a joy and privilege it is to be an instrument in organizing such a great effort to help feed those who are having a difficult time this year!” said Lisa Bandlow, Education and Marketing Manager for Forest Area Federal Credit Union.
 
The food pantries which will be receiving the funds raised this year’s fundraiser include:  Living Word Church, St. Theresa’s Church, Colfax Community Church and the Free Methodist Church food pantries in the Manton area, the Methodist Church of Kingsley food pantry, KAIR Food Pantry of Kalkaska and the Fife Lake Food Pantry in Fife Lake.

Third Level Crisis Intervention Center has openings for volunteers and
interns. Do you like challenges, helping people with diverse backgrounds and working as a team? Do people tell you that you're a good listener?  Third Level Crisis Center is looking for volunteers and interns that want  to make a difference in the community to join our crisis counseling team. Minimum qualifications: 18 year of age, 150 hour commitment, pass criminal 
background check, some computer experience. Students and parents will have a unique opportunity to explore a wide variety of higher education options at the Fifth Annual Northern Michigan College Night on Thursday, March 21th, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The free college fair will be hosted by Charlevoix High School, 5200 Marion Center Rd., Charlevoix. 

Designed for high school juniors, sophomores, and their families, College Night introduces students and their parents to representatives from over 40 post-secondary institutions. 

Participants will receive important information about educational planning, gather literature, speak one-on-one with representatives from these institutions, and visit displays from various trade schools, colleges, universities, and the armed forces.

Endurance Evolution is excited to announce that the Sleeping Bear Marathon & Half Marathon has joined the Great Lakes Marathon Seriesa collection of 25 marathons in the U.S. and Canada that take place along the great lakes. The second annual Sleeping Bear Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2013.
 
The series has partnered with the Alliance for the Great Lakes, a citizens organization devoted to the great lakes' ecosystem and economies. The aim is to help raise awareness of conservation and restoration efforts.

The East Jordan Rotary Club is accepting nominations for 2013 Father of the Year.

The award will be presented during the club’s 93rd annual father and son banquet at 6 p.m. on April 27 at the East Jordan High School cafeteria.
 
The deadline for father of the year nominations is April 13.

Nominations should include the nominee’s name, address and phone number, a brief biography of the nominee and an explanation of why the nominee should be father of the year. Nominations should also include the name, address and phone number of the nominator. Completed nominations should be sent to P.O. Box 195, East Jordan, MI 49727.
 
The banquet will include dinner, a speed painting performance by Boyne Falls artist, Martina Hahn, and activities for everyone.

Cost for the banquet is $10 for adults and $5 for students - preschool-age children are free.
