Trick or Treat - no treat for you because you're a fat kid...

Did you hear about this woman who is handing these snarky notes to the chubby "trick or treaters" in her North Dakota neighborhood? Oh, the fit kids get candy but the fat kids get this note to take home:

Happy Halloween and Happy Holidays, Neighbor!

You are probably wondering why your child has this note; have you ever heard the saying 'It takes a village to raise a child?' I am disappointed in the village of Fargo Moorhead, West Fargo.

Your child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season.

My hope is that you will step up as a parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits.

Thank you.

Boo! You're no fun!

Drinking & Driving: I'm thankful that my stupid decisions never created a victim

Just reading this story about the mayor of Traverse City getting busted for driving under the influence. 9&10 news reports that Wednesday night around 9pm Traverse City police saw a car cross the center line on East Eight Street, then swerve into the bike lane before being pulled over. Police say his blood alcohol content was .120%, Michigan's legal BAC limit is .08%.

I'm not going to go into how stupid it is to drive while drunk. The mayor knows this, he released a statement, “I deeply regret my actions. I've embarrassed my family, and the Office of Mayor in Traverse City. I apologize to all involved. I've put my personal life on display which is deeply regrettable.”

I am going to say this, I've driven when I shouldn't have. Actually, let's not BS, I've driven flat out drunk. To be honest, I don't know many people who can really say they haven't. We like to play “goody goody” but let's be real, if you've been through your 20s chances are you've done things you're not proud of.

I just look back and think to myself HOW COULD YOU HAVE BEEN SO STUPID? YOU COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE! How could I have missed that when I was driving drunk? I'll tell you, selfishness. “Hey, I can drive. There are never any cops on my route home,” or “I'm not riding in cab or embarrassing myself by calling someone.” That's what goes through a guy's head in his mid 20s. Not once did I ever think “I'm dangerous, I could kill someone.”

Now let's be clear before the hate starts, I've done a lot of growing up in the last few years. I know my limit and I know what to do if I go over my limit. Would I consider all of what I described as a drinking problem? No. A guy in his 20s having fun once a weekend with friends is normal. It was a judgment problem, and I'm thankful that my stupid decisions never created a victim.

I'm not going to be part of this Facebook mob that rips the mayor apart for a terrible decision. He is a community leader, held to a high standard, who got busted doing something that's way more common than it should be. Mr. Mayor, you too could have killed someone and I hope you use this incident to help teach others to use better judgment.

To our friends heading out to the bars tonight, tomorrow or this weekend – it's not just about a DUI – if you continue to drive under the influence you're a selfish, arrogant, killer just waiting for a victim. Be smart, know your limit. Don't drink and drive.

I'm grateful I learned this lesson before my 30th birthday. Peace and love to all who have become victims of a drunk driver.

Kanye West will be on Jimmy Kimmel's show tonight. Kimmel is still insisting that their latest Twitter scuffle was not a prank. This should be good. Kimmel is on around 11:30 on ABC 29&8.

Would you be upset if you found out your high school child's Spanish teacher posed for Playboy when she was 18? I'm talking full on nude. Cristy Nicole Deweese was Playboy's “Coed of the Month” in February of 2011 and it looks like at least one parent took notice. The anonymous parent told the Dallas Morning News that Deweese's past was a distraction to the kids and that the kids were using their phones to look at her photos and video while on campus. She was removed from the classroom last Friday. A spokeswoman told the Dallas Morning News that while there was no illegal activity involved, the issue is “murky” since state ethics standard say that teachers should be of “good moral character and be worthy to instruct or supervise youth.” So what do you think? NOTE: We can't post pics here but here's the video from before the shoot. (There's no nudity just an interview and Deweese posing. I give it a PG13 rating, not meant for young children.)

A judge ordered Kanye West to stay 10 yards away from the photographer he assaulted this last summer. Prosecutors wanted Kanye to take anger management classes but the judge decided different. This really isn't much of a punishment. Do they think Kanye really wants to be near the photog?

I'm a “wait until it comes out on DVD” kind of guy, so today is big! “The Hangover Part III,” “After Earth,” and “The Purge” are out today. I saw “The Purge” in theaters, great concept but I don't think they followed through with the storyline very well, I would rent it but don't buy it.

Miley Cyrus was the host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. I have to say, she did an AMAZING job singing “Wrecking Ball” and an acoustic version of “We Can't Stop.” A bit of controversy erupted both on Facebook and Twitter after the skit, “We Did Stop.” It was about the government shut down and Miley played a sexy Michelle Bachmann who licked an Abraham Lincoln doll. For the record, I thought it was funny. Check it out!

“Gravity” with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney nailed the #1 spot at the movies this weekend. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” came in 2nd and “Runner Runner” with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck came in 3rd. By the way, 1st place brought in $55.55 million and 3rd $7.6 million, just a small difference!

There will be some changes to late night TV coming soon with Jay Leno stepping out, Fallon stepping up and Seth Meyers coming in but no changes on CBS. Word is CBS has extended David Letterman's contract through 2015.

Have you seen these hilarious commercials with Will Ferrell, err I mean Ron Burgundy? Dodge is being brilliant and using him as a spokesperson. So funny! Not only do I want a Dodge now, I can't wait to see “Anchorman 2!”

Crazy stuff happened in Washington DC yesterday. A woman drove up to the barriers outside the White House, argued with the guards and sped off toward the U.S. Capitol. A high speed chase broke out and she was eventually shot and killed. It wasn't terrorism, but it wasn't an accident either. Here's video of the car trying to get to the White House. By the way, ABC reports the people who stopped her from getting to the capitol won't be paid until the government shutdown is over.

Lets start with something that will give you anxiety the next time you open up a package. A family in Ludington opened a package from the mail and a SCORPION crawled out! Mike Comstock found the scorpion, put a cup over it and says he wants to keep it as a pet. Danielle, his wife, says no. Turns out the package of pills they ordered was in Texas for a few days and the company who shipped it is thinking that's where the scorpion came from.

It might be a good weekend to watch a few Tom Clancy inspired movies on Netflix or pick up one of his books to honor the author. He passed away Monday at the age of 66. “The Hunt for Red October, “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger,” and “The Sum of All Fears” were all Clancy novels turned into blockbusters.

The Michael Jackson wrongful death case has come to a close and AEG live was found not liable for his death.

It's all local organic food and the environment is totally different. More from The TC Ticker here...

What's Up in Entertainment

By now you know I'm a TV buff and this time of year is both exciting and frustrating. Every network has a new series and most of us don't want to waste our time in a show that might be canceled in a few weeks. So far “The Crazy Ones” on CBS, “The Blacklist” on NBC and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” on ABC all have been doing great it ratings, all in the top 20. Watch on!

“The Walking Dead” is back on the 13th but new webisodes have been posted at AMCtv.com. I caught up on these over the summer and they are pretty good. This one is a 3 part series called “The Oath,” and in all it's about 26 minutes long.

Remember when MTV had music videos? Diddy did and he's launching his own cable music channel to feature “The best of rock, the best of EDM, the best of hip hop...the future of music. We may play some country music if it's funky enough.” It cable network is called Revolt TV.
