Trying to follow-up one of the best-selling albums of the past 10 years is a difficult task, and nobody is more aware of that than OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, who is working on the next album by Adele. But Ryan says he only has one goal for the new project: to "kick butt
Speaking to the British paper the Evening Standard, Ryan says that even though he's been in the studio with Adele, he doesn't know "what the timetable is" on her new album, as far as when it's coming out. "I wish I did,” he adds. He also says he's trying not to make 21 Part II.
"I’m not getting tied up on what the last album sounded like. I’m also painfully aware that she now has 30 million new fans," he tells the paper. "I hold her in the highest regard you could of any artist. Whatever aspect of what I do, that can help her to continue to be as great as she is, that’s what I’m trying to do. Goal number one is that it simply kicks so much butt.
Ryan says he especially isn't going to try and make the new album -- or any of the other records he's working on at the moment, which include the upcoming projects fromTaylor Swift and U2 -- sound like what's currently on the radio.
“The moment you sit down and think, ‘What should I write that’s gonna work on radio?’ you’ve already missed it," he explains. "Your goal as a songwriter is to point pop culture in a direction, as well as reflecting where it’s at.”
