Heather and I noticed this yesterday too and were pretty surprised: At 8:46 A.M. Eastern time yesterday, ABC and CBS broke out of their morning shows to carry live coverage of a moment of silence for victims of the 9/11 attacks. It was the 11th anniversary of when the first plane struck the World Trade Center. But on NBC, the "Today" show ducked out to stick with its programming . . . an interview with KIM KARDASHIAN'S mom KRIS JENNER, who was talking about her televised boob job. "New York" magazine noticed it right away, and put together an amusing split-screen video, which shows "Today" show host SAVANNAH GUTHRIE talking with Kris about her boobs . . . over the near silence from the other stations.
NBC is defending their decision. A spokesperson says, quote, "The 'Today' show dedicated a considerable amount of time to September 11th coverage this morning throughout the entire show."

CHRIS BROWN has a new tattoo of a woman's face on his neck, and a lot of people think it looks like RIHANNA. Others have speculated that it's a BATTERED WOMAN . . . because there are marks on the face. Turns out it's neither. Brown's rep says it was inspired by a half-skull design he happened to see . . . which was released by the MAC Cosmetics company in honor of Mexico's Day of the Dead festival.

Rumor has it RANDY JACKSON is back in play to be a judge on "American Idol" next season . . . after MONTHS of speculation that he'd be demoted to some sort of "mentor" role. At the moment, it sounds like the judges will be Randy, MARIAH CAREY, NICKI MINAJ and KEITH URBAN. Supposedly, Randy was brought back into the mix when negotiations with ENRIQUE IGLESIAS broke down.

The number of estimated viewers hasn't been released yet, but Nielsen says its preliminary data shows that it was the highest-rated talk show debut since "Dr. Phil" premiered 10 years ago. "Katie" blew all the other new talk shows . . . hosted by STEVE HARVEY, RICKI LAKE and JEFF PROBST . . . out of the water. And she had twice as many viewers as ANDERSON COOPER did for the second season premiere of his show.
