Caller Reveals "I Actually Took the Photo" of Myles Kerr in Charlevoix 5k
The inspirational story of Myles Kerr, 19-year-old U.S. Marine, motivating a young boy to finish the Charlevoix 5k last Saturday lacked one tiny detail as it exploded onto national news headlines - WHO actually took the photo?!
KHQ listener Cassidy Stebe called my request line tonight "about the Marine in Charlevoix" after hearing me mention
the story on-air.... and revealed SHE took the Instagram-pic-turned-viral-photo! So.... Why not? I'll just drop an official
looking *EXCLUSIVE* before the official interview below;)
(via Josh & Heather on KHQ's blog)
"On Saturday, [Myles] decided to run in a 5k race with friends while he was wearing his boots, military fatigues, and a backpack. During the race, Myles noticed a 9-year-old named Boden running by himself. Boden had somehow been separated from the people he was running with, and asked Myles if THEY could run together... Along the way, Boden had gotten tired and wanted to quit but Myles motivated him to keep going, and they finished the race together."
This simple act of kindness goes beyond the military mentality "no man left behind" when in the field. It proved to us all how truly powerful a simple moment of motivation is, whether in the eyes of a child or through the eyes of an entire nation. This Marine didn't just put uplifting positivity back in the news for a minute. He inspired a tiny voice that thought they couldn't do it alone, to finish the race together.
Yeah... think that one over for a minute....
Thanks for calling tonight, Cassidy! Here's your first official photo cred shout-out ;)
