If you’ve every heard of the website/service Twitch.tv, you’ve also likely heard about its (now former) number 1 streamer, Tyler Blevins, aka “Ninja”. Well he turned the streaming world on its head yesterday afternoon when he announced that he would be leaving his 14 million followers on Twitch to join the Microsoft-backed streaming service called Mixer.
Until recently, streaming sites like Mixer and Facebook Gaming have been viewed as the underdogs by large margins, but with many streamers being wooed by large contracts to sites other than Twitch, I don’t think that will remain the norm for very long.
I can’t imagine what Microsoft paid for Ninja, but with his estimated income at somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million dollars a month, It has to be quite a hefty sum. Maybe even stake in the company.
Shameless plug time, but I occasionally stream on Mixer at Mixer.com/radiofish
